Crushed

I just googled myself to see what what people would find if some potential stalker, family member/friend, or future employer ever looked for me and up pop all these pictures from this blog. WTF??? There's a reason I don't use my real name! All the pictures were coming from my G+ page, and I re-actively deleted a bunch of albums, not reading the disclaimer. Sometimes I'm not so great in panic situations :-D
I had deleted a bunch of pictures, worst of all, most of my Paint pictures!!!! UGH!!!
Aye me.
Stupid Google! I hate how they and facebook just change formats, forcing you to redo everything. People say not to complain b/c it's free and blah blah blah. No. You don't lure people in with a smile and then pants them when they least suspect it. That's just rude. That was rude, Google!!!!

I met 311!

Not the band, but the couple that lives in that apartment. They seem to be the only folks my age without kids in my section, so this is excellent progress for me. That's 2 down, 3 apts to go.
I was hanging out in our lounge area earlier and also met this kind of strange guy. He asked me the usual old white guy questions - how long have I been in the country, do I know the other Indians in the building, etc. He told me about all the cliques in the building - the Korean cliques, the gym class cliques, the social committee cliques. I want a clique now! We can be the TV Watchers, or the Pasta Eaters. I should post flyers.

New Years Resolutions 2012

Most of these are old, but they worked out really well for me before, so why not reuse?

1. Learn how to do a cartwheel. I know kids do it all the time, but I never did and now I'm really scared the weight of my adult body will break my wrists or I'll fall wrong and break my neck. Maybe if I have super thick mats to practice on....while I'm hooked up to those trapeze bungee things....and a helmet. Yeah, that should be sufficient.

2. Learn some constellations. I was on the highway down south earlier and finally got to see a real starry sky. Not just a couple dozen, but hundreds. It was a sight that you could imagine people from the 1400s would see b/c they didn't have light pollution. It was beautiful! How romantic would it be to sit out side and point out something other than just the Big Dipper?

3. Be more Pam-like. Pamelama does such a great job of calling out of the blue just to say hello. I acutally call my other friends afterwards because I want to pay that awesome feeling forward. And, like Pam, I'm going to extend this to those old high school and college friends and coworkers I've lost touch with.

4. One book a month. This is harder now that I don't have such a long commute. Then again, I also don't have a TV. Any recommendations?

5. Run 3 miles. This was also on my list last year, but I never got to it. I need a goal. Who wants to sign up for a 5k with me? I need a workout buddy!

6. Get at least 10 raffle prizes for each of my NYCares fundraising events. For the Fall Happy Hour, I failed miserably at getting prizes, so for this Spring Soiree I want to make up for that. I want to make my team proud of me!

7. Work on my Spanish and French. Beware - this means my blog will be experiencing a lot of Spanglish and Frenglish interruptions.

8. Donate 1,000 grains of rice at FreeRice.com and I can work on my languages at the same time!

9. Enjoy everyday. There are so many places to go, foods to eat, and sights to see around here. Even if it's just sitting in the hot tub, or emailing an old friend, what's the point of living if you don't have fun, right? Heck, maybe I'll even invent something! Probably not, but maybe!!

10. Do/make something new every week. I tried this before and it was really fun even though it only lasted a few months. I highly recommend everyone try this.

11. Finally, New Lux 2012. Strong, faster, smarter. RoboLux.

Oh, also...I've started a new blog. Now when I say "HAVEN'T YOU READ MY BLOG??" I can actually send them a link, but still have this place for my silly personal stuff.

Have a Happy New Year!

Me vs. Casa

I just moved into a new place a few weeks ago, and I gotta tell ya, it’s been hell. Every single thing that could go wrong, went wrong. I hate this place. It’s just four walls enclosing disappointments and frustrations. I don’t want to be here, I have no motivation to even try to make this stupid house into a stupid home. I feel like it’s been Me vs. House for the past few months. I wish it were Dr. Gregory House. At least then there’d be some witty banter, Vicodin, and a hot older man with beautiful eyes involved.

That said, I just made a super awesome win. I fixed the dryer all by myself!!!! Well, the maintenance guy moved it, and my brother did lend me his tools, BUT I did the Googling and actual fixing!

The main thing I had to do was hit the reset button, and once I did that and the dryer was working again, I was so freakin’ happy!! It was like hitting the reset button on my life! Not really though, b/c everything else is still sucky, but at that moment, it felt like it was.

I’ve realized that a big problem is that everything just seems so overwhelming. Maybe I just need to divide and conquer - one room at a time. Let’s start with an easy one.

The bathroom’s kind of done, but I do want some greenery in there. I HEART NATURE! I hate that I have no window in there (I hate you, Casa), but the rainforest-like conditions after I take a shower should be good for a plant, right? Oh, right, I also have to repaint it. UGH. I hate you, Casa.

Any other suggestions? What special touches do you think would make a bathroom awesome?

Streusel

I had dinner with Chron and surprise guest Pamelama, and C again made a delish dinner. This may seem silly to everyone else in the world, but I was fascinated by how simple the streusel she made for the apple dessert was. And it was also delicious of course! I always thought it was some complicated thing only Omas, pastry chefs, and Entenmann’s made. I know I sound like a dummy, but hey, I grew up with Indian food. Do YOU know how to make a chickpea chutney? DIDN'T THINK SO.

Steusel is awesome! You can put in on so many things! Peaches, apples, cherries, blueberries, sweet potato, basically any fruit (or vegetable?), cakes, jam bars, oatmeal. STREUSEL FTW!! Thanks Chris, for teaching me something simple yet awesome AGAIN.

Streusel Topping:
1/2 c flour
4 tbls butter
4 tbls sugar
2 tps cinnamon (it says optional, but I think it’s key)
Sprinkle Streusel over the dessert before baking.
I love the crunchiness it adds. Mmmm…texture. Oh, and you could add nuts too if you're into that.

Guter Appetit!

New Girl

Fun fact! Did you know the original title of this show was Chicks and Dicks?

It wasn't super hilarious, but it does have Zooey Dechanel, and the non-skeezy white guy totally has a crush on her which is so cute, and finally, their apartment is GORGEOUS. Let's get to the deets.

I Loved:

1. Her outfits. Even the overalls. If anyone can bring back overalls, it's her. And if you're gunna tell me overalls were never in, six-year old Lux BEGS TO DIFFER.

2. Douche jar. I need to introduce this to my friends. And coworkers. And maybe a cousin. I'd make bajillions.

3. The apartment. Finally, a show on TV with a gorgeous, huge apartment with a realistic number of people living there. Huge, beautiful window, very comfy looking couch, and color everywhere!

4. The guy. Awww. The guy totally has a crush on her, and so now I have a crush on the guy. Yes, I'm that easy.

Shows I'm Not Into

These shows were lame and therefore did not deserve full recaps:

The Playboy Club

Yeah, I watched it. Amber Heard if hot, and I immediately thought "I wonder when we'll be able to tell when Eddie 'Once a Cheater, Always a Cheater' Cibrian cheats on Leanne Rhimes with her." She has a girlfriend though, so now I've lost all interest in watching the show.
I did like Heard though, and the lead brunette. She's kind of a hardass, but you still root for her. It's great if you like eye candy, but there isn't much else keeping you there. For some reason, they even gave away what the redhead was being so secretive about. Who gives closure in a pilot?

Whitney
Bummer. I was really rooting for this one. Do you have a friend who laughs at jokes that aren't funny, and then it's like, what was that? Why are you laughing? That's how I felt about the audience/laugh track.
I'm so mad! She's so funny on Twitter and her stand up.

Unforgettable
I love procedural shows. Everyone does, that's why there are so many of them! This one is so lame though. EVERY other one uses clues to find the "perp" - Law & Order (all 37 of them), Monk, CSI, Cold Case, Psych, etc. They use real detective work, forensics, intelligence. On this show, she just HAPPENS to remember the very things that help crack the case. She was actually at the scene of the murder in the pilot, so I'm curious as to how she'll remember things for other crimes. Not so curious I'll keep watching though.

Up All Night

Wow. Very disappointing.
It's not like they threw a bunch of bad jokes around. It was just...so...blah. I know it's supposed to be relate-able to parents, especially new parents, but what about the rest of us? It was like the show was composed of a bunch of inside jokes. Not the good kind. The kind you'd hear them tell each other at parties after being cooped up in the house with the baby for so long, they don't remember what real jokes are. I think I, at most, smiled...once.

They should've kept Running Wilde and replaced Felicity with Samantha Who. Then they would've had a good show, with funny actors, instead of a funny show with a not funny actress, or two funny actors on a blah show. Hmm...and while we're mixing things up here, how about tossing Maya Rudolph and throwing in the HILARIOUS Peter Serafinowicz.

AH! What a waste!! I say they won't even get to the back 9.

I was so depressed, I couldn't even get off the couch, so I stuck around for Free Agents which followed. Not a must see, but it did get a couple laughs out of me. Hank Azaria is adorable and Kathryn Hahn is beautiful! There's more wit and fast-talking going on here, but not worth the DVR space.
